Low Poly mountains

Hi, this is my first artwork on the forum. Can anyone give me advice on generally improving this image and getting a better low poly effect?

Thanks

Perhaps I’m being n00bish but I’m not sure exactly what you mean by low poly effect? Do you mean you want the image to look really low poly, or do you want to improve this image so that despite its low poly count it looks higher quality?

You’re not being noobish, Doc. I have exactly the same question. Rory, is that tree supposed to be 1000 meters tall?

Hi, thanks for your responses! I mean the first one ‘really low poly’.
Thanks for the too!

You would need some more trees (and smaller too) and a sun maybe?

I think it does look quite low poly at the moment.

What kind of look are you aiming for though? Something like Minecraft?

Not sure what kind of environment you want to get,it’s looking quite simple so far.

Also, it looks like the sky is being displaced. Why is the sky being displaced? Since it’s not a solid object, it should just be a solid color or a gradient. Also, that mountain in the background should be a little flatter, I think. If it’s supposed to be really distant, it should also have higher polygon density. Also, the cloud and the snow seem to have the same material. Give them a slightly different materials and make the cloud more round and puffy and volumey. Add some fog or glows, as well as a sun. Hard to really tell a direct light source at the moment.

hmm to get a better effect i think you should widden the camera angle, that means take it with a 18mm instead of 35 or 70
Also set a nearby focus point and also in the camerapanel set radius size so 0.3 or 0.5 so you get a strong camera unsharpiness fog > this endups with what camera people call “toy camera settings”,
Could you rerender it like that and repost here ?

Note strong so you get verry little sharp depth might be more important then 15mm or 18mm, oh well try both

Don´t listen to this guy! >

The sky is the best thing in your first pic!
option 1 > delete the tree and the cloud > get a minimalistic low-poly-piece or >
option 2 > much more clouds + much more much smaller trees + a sun of corse also “displaced” maybe like this > http://starstruct.cias.rit.edu/files/NealaUploadingWeek6Deck/Low%20Poly%20Moodboards/Design%20Board.1/low-poly-sun-set.jpeg
What texturesettings and lighting did you use? only diffuse and a sun? espeacially the sky looks like real Paper for me

There is a new Script which can improve the look easily > http://blenderthings.blogspot.co.uk/2014/03/osl-bevel-shader.html?utm_content=buffer8fbde&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_campaign=buffer

Looks great. Keep working at it! Low poly work is definitely it’s own style, and quite a good looking style in my opinion!!!

Oh, this thread is still alive? So, there is my current work in progress.
