lowpoly head planes

I don’t know why but I cant seem to get started modeling this.
I am not new to modeling at all, but I guess I have brain freeze or something.

Does anyone know of a written or video tutorial for modeling a head like this?
I want just the basic planes like this and the full head.
The model in the image is one I downloaded for reference.

It looks like it still follows the basic topology.

It has triangles and large faces, and some of them break the face flow. You could model the geometry quite quickly and destroy it afterwards by connecting faces and vertices as you wish. These might help http://cgcookie.com/blender/series/modeling-a-human-head/

I am not looking for good topology, I know how to do that. Let me explain a little better.
I am doing a study of head planes, using the Andrew Loomis drawing method. This will help me in my study of head sculpting.
Once I get the head planes down I can always go back in and change the edge flow and fix any bad topology.

Here is a better example of what I am trying to do.

At last this is what I was going for. Still needs some tweaking, edges re-routed, tris and ngons fixed.
It may look crazy but I am learning some new things.
