Always try to think first that the other party is not evil. And hope they do the same with you.

Other explanations might be

  • we need logins to avoid 80x voters skewing the results
  • we didnā€™t have enough capacity to design and launch the survey on time, because weā€™re organizing a conference while developing software

Ha, I wasnā€™t even aware that I have a Blender Account.

But I liked the Survey.
There was much room to express what your Blender usage, demands
and interests are, what features you wish for and which direction of
development, by their project plans offers, you support.

My special interests may not have much weight against the mainstream,
but even for mainstream, the interests may or may not be distributed
the way Blender planned.

Exciting, looking forward to the Survey results.

I never said anything about evil. Making a survey that isnā€™t biased is extremely difficult, I took entire classes in college about it. The natural form of any given survey, without rigorous and intensive labor, is biased, this one included. Thatā€™s all :slight_smile:

Agree that I like Adobeā€™s approach to AI integration the best so far. Though so far Iā€™ve mainly just used it to transcribe videos. Generative fill in Photoshop hasnā€™t met my needs yet (but maybe I just need to get better at prompting.) In theory it should be great at generating new textures, but in practice I havenā€™t gotten good results yet. The ā€œneural filtersā€ are seeing a fair bit of use, though.

Well, the option to include that in your most-wanted features turned out to have been added to the survey after I had explicitly requested it in the custom feedback field, so that gives me hope the devs are willing to consider it, as theyā€™ve added the option after my survey submission.

Thereā€™s already some SDF / volume functionality in Geometry Nodes, but a robust SDF modeling toolset would make sure Blender wonā€™t lag behind in that emerging area of modeling.

Why do people always post nonsense about Apple. No one has to buy the products. No one has to like the company. The facts get censored anyway, as the new generation loves to put everything that bother them away.
So what, YouTube and others got a lot different opinions and for every opinion there is a counter opinion.

Truth is, Apple took its time to improve the Silicon Chip. They were not wrong either, as the whole mobile market goes away from Intel chips. Now they winning back users, just check zBrush on iPad as a reference. Maybe they beat even Nvidia some day, who knows. For us itā€™s a win-win situation. The more competition the better for the costumers.

True it would be nice of my macStudio Max M2 would render as fast as my 2013 PC with an RTX 4070.

But that is the only difference.

For the rest Apple started to work on a massively large infrastructure and that takes time.

Since i have an rtx4070 pc myself I was constantly looking for a good well optimized app that is running perfectly on my pc and also mac M3pro macbook.

Blender is not it but itā€™s probably just for its obscene use of memory which i hope will get eradicated soon. Octane was a good ~50% of render speed but somewhat not constant in every case.

however for both octane as a dedicated offline path tracer and RE4 as really optimized for apple silicon real time game after quite some time I am pretty sure an m3 pro is about 50% of a 4070 in a heavily optimized scenario (octane, RE4 are definitely heavily optimized for apple silicon) other apps are hit and miss, my beloved unreal is thrash on mac.

On top of that having both of those apps on ipad M4 the ipad is constantly above 50% of the m3 pro performance. In octane itā€™s actually easy to measure and itā€™s more like 60% of m3pro but my ipad is 8gb ram so i can only test small scenes. RE4 or RE8(which allows for some more intense settings) snow that the device is definitely punching way above its weight class.

Given what iā€™ve seen so far it would have been a big surprise if an macbook or mac mini M4 isnā€™t at least at 4070 performance an m4 pro at 4080 and max in studio chassis at least 4090.

If we get less than that I would find it suspicious from apple cause the ipad m4 blows my mind everyday in terms of what that device is capable of. And while m3 pro is great, itā€™s only great in heavily optimized stuff like resident evil games

Looking at the M3 Max Blender OpenData score, knowing that the Ultra scales very well, having read that the M4ā€™s are about 25% faster than M3, we could expect 10.000 point score from an M4 Ultra, just shy of the 4090.

If something gets lost in scaling, itā€™s lower. But if the Ultra has improved HWRT or more GPU cores, it could surpass 10.000.

Then again, the 50xx series are almost here :slight_smile:

Yes, never ending race :Dā€¦ In unreal I honestly never felt like I need more than 4070, cycles and octane might be different story for complex animations, but the software is also getting more efficient.
