Macntosh and python 2.4

I can only get blender with python 2.3 to work, not with python 2.4.

I have mac 10.4.8, with a 700MHz PowerPC G4 processor.

Two questions: 1. Why is that?
2. Will 2.43 still support 2.3 python?

Python 2.3 is pre-installed on Macs, but you can upgrade it to 2.4
