Every time that I change a parameter for my fluid simulation, I must change the domain type from replay to modular to replay again if I want the change to be reflected in the simulation. Is there a way to avoid this? It becomes very tedious to complete a project when I must do this all the time.

Sadly not. Its a bug that you can follow here: https://developer.blender.org/T77170
It should be fixed for 3.0 though since its initial target was 2.93. The developer is currently working on a gpu speed up for mantaflow so thats also nice.
