Making Instanced Assets Editable?

I’ve been racking my brain and reading documents on a problem that I ran into: I have an object that I pulled into a scene from the Asset Browser and it comes in as expected, however, I would like to edit the materials on the object and can’t because it’s (what I think is) an instance. I’ve tried pretty much every command that I can think of (make local, unlink, etc, etc) to see if I can make the instance an editable local copy - and can’t seem to figure out how to do that. Does anyone know how to do this? I’m hoping I’m just overlooking a command …

Any information would be appreciated :slightly_smiling_face:

You don’t mention trying Relations > Make Single User > Object & Data & Materials.

Yes - I did try that as well - pretty much ever option under “Relations” as well as Collections and Linked Data. It’s bizarre that it seems there is no way to do what I’m wanting to do (make it local so I can animate it and change the materials)

Okay, I see now in the Outliner that those are Collection Instances. Try Make Instances Real.

That was it! Thank you very much! I can’t believe I didn’t find that with all the menus, but in my defense, I wouldn’t think it would be under the “Apply” category.

That doesn’t matter, though, you figured it out and I am grateful - thank you  Have a great weekend
