Hey everyone, I’m making a model of myself and I need to make sure it has :
Good edge flow
Realistic proportions
Good form
Good anatomy
And everything good from a modeling standpoint
This is my final for a project at the university of Utah
Please let me know which areas need the most work so i can get the biggest problems out of the way.
Thanks
First, post some images that show a more normal view and perspective. It’s hard to judge proportions from unusual camera angles.
First impressions: The trunk & legs look pretty good, but the forearms look too long and the head a little to big.
If you want feedback on the topology, post some wire shots, preferably orthos. It’s easier by far to look at posted images and respond than to dig into and render out your file.
If you aren’t using plain ortho views (Front, Right, Back, Side, etc) then use perspective camera settings, otherwise the proportions look really wonky. Also use Subsurf and Smooth Faces when showing the wires, it’s a lot easier to see the surfaces & loop flow that way.
Anatomy crits:Wrists too long, palms too small, fingers too long – this contributes to the lower arm looking too long altogether, although from the elbow to the wrist it looks OK. The head seems to slope way too much from the crown to the occipital (rear) area, almost as if crushed in back there. Study the structure of abs a bit, your sections look misproportioned. Scapular region on the back looks kind of lumpy, no sense of the bone underneath, and the gluteus maximus is too flat.
Topology: You seem to have a lot, and I mean lot, of extraneous faces/subdivisions/loops. The major loops to help define the musculature and improve deformation when flexing are missing or misplaced, you’ll be getting a lot of odd folding and bending when posing. Try and keep your loops and edges to a minimum. Maybe this can help some:
This video has some useful pointers about the shoulder area (modeling talk starts around 25:00, if the rest isn’t interesting) http://vimeo.com/11901510
