So here’s the plan - box model simple base mesh, rough sculpt, retopo, detail sculpt. Here’s stage 1, weighing in at 1462 verts. I’ve created a fair bit of geometry around the face so I can sculpt without having to go too high with a multires. I’ve got a nice sculpting tutorial by Zack Petroc - he likes to use a progressive refinement approach.
So, a bit of sculpting. Worked on the torso mostly, limbs and head still to do. Applied a subsurf level 1 to bring the polycount up to about 5000 verts, and this now has 2 levels of multires bringing it to 90,000+. Also, a back view after doing a bit of work on the legs. Considering what I started with (above) and how little experience I’ve had with sculpting I’m quite happy with the result so far.

OK, stage 2 finished I think. The rest of it will take a bit longer. Lots to clean up on this but it is just a rough sculpt.

Good job man! will be waiting for the final result
Thanks, I’m enjoying this.
Retope’d the sculpt. Aim is not for a final result, but to create a fairly optimized mesh for further sculpting. Also it is animation friendly should I wish to go that way. I’m hoping to use this mesh to build a range of male characters.

I think there should be more detail in muscles.
Absolutely! Next stage for me is not just surface detail (wrinkles etc) but also more detailed anatomy. I’m hoping to use this to create several different characters by modifying the anatomy a bit through sculpting.
right on good job so far. i can’t wait to see how it turns out.
