I am modeling a marauder/firebat (not sure which I will do yet, they look very similar) from the game starcraft 2. I am obviously not done all of the modeling and I still have some detailing to do on what I have already modeled but I feel like I am off to a good start.
I was thinking about doing the siege tank but I couldn’t get any good references.
Both of you could use a screenshot of the units from the campaign armory… Isn’t it?
I got some screenshots from the armory and also about 40 images from google. I was lucky because I can use firebat and marauder photos.
Until there, it’s quite good.
I just wonder if the grenade-launchers aren’t bigger than that. I suppose you try to make the armor in realistic dimensions, rather than in the “cartoon” dimensions of SC2?
haha Yeah I suppose they should be a bit bigger. I hadn’t put much thought into it yet because right now I am just trying to get the basic modeling down.
I’ll post more pictures whenever I can get the chest right. I’ve remodeled it about 3 times and I am still having issues with it.
I like having front, side, and top views. All the photos I’ve seen are at angles and take real talent to interpret their dimensions.
Yeah Mack I’ve always been the same way. Until I did this project I’ve always had ideal reference images like you mentioned but this time I haven’t really had any detailed ideal images like that so instead I’ve been using a lot of different images at a myriad of angles. I found that the trick that worked best for me is modeling it piece by piece (connecting afterwords if needed) and then I judge how big, wide, ect. something needs to be by looking at an image and saying stuff in my head like “the edge of this is about double the length of what this needs to be.” and it makes it a lot easier for me. Its definitely a technique I am having good results with so far and I can’t imagine any other way to go about it that doesn’t involve messing with camera angles all day.
small update: Did a bit a rescaling and I made some placeholders for where the chest piece will be although it looks a bit funny w/o the rest of the chest.
