Nice work! Can you provide more information and some additional renders, like a wireframe or clay render?

Thank you, Bartv! Yeah I’m happy to talk about the render.

  • Lighting - Skybox, 1 light for sun, point light for between mario and luigi, 3 area lights to colour the sky into a sunset (red, orange, blue), and point lights at the back of the bullet bills

  • Smoke / clouds - most of the smoke or clouds are simply planes with alpha textures. A math node is then used to fade some of the smoke/clouds further. The smoke trails on the Bullet Bills are two verts with a skin, subsurf, displace, curve modifiers applied. A custom shader is used to make some parts orange and make the ends of the trail transparent.

  • Shaders - Not very interesting. Found / made some alpha textures and then added more “realism” by mixing the end shader with a blenderkit shader for grass/dirt/fabric/wood.

  • Toads are just images. I got lazy towards the end

  • Compositing was used to add vinette, extra colour blending, add AO, lens distortion, etc.
