Mario

I’ve started on a Mario model, since it seemed rather easy because he’s a CG character in the first place. I got a little tired of the other model I’m working on, so just to keep interest in Blender, I HAD to start on something else.

What do you think?

I think that´s a great start…!!

wow, that is awesome!!!
there’s maybe one thing that looks off to me… the hat seems maybe a bit too high on his head…and maybe a bit too thick? well, not thick, but the actual height of the hat itself… it’s really the only thing i can see…
he looks really awesome

and the best part about making Mario is that if you want to make Luigi, all you have to do is stretch Mario a bit, and make him a bit thinner! lol

looks cool, can’t wait to see him in his entirety

(out of curiosity, what reference are you using? looks a bit like Super Mario 64 and SM-Galaxy…)

@meshweaver Thanks! And yes, the hat seemed a little too high to me as well, but the references I’ve been following are a conglomeration of promo pics from New Super Mario Bros, and his hat seems to be a little bit higher in those. Here’s my main reference: Mario Wikipedia Picture!

And I’ve been working on the body now. Still haven’t finished the hair, and the shaders are WAY overdone, but it’s working out nicely for the moment.

nice! i’m definitely going to keep visiting this thread

Made the overalls. I’m going to have to do some UV texturing on those pants to get the seams… ugh

Also, shaders still look crappy.

Hair and stuff. The hands I just made him look terrible. I’ll have to try again.

wow, pulling together really quickly!

he’s looking awesome-er with every post, BumpyMonkey

Thanks! I must admit, for a day and a half of work I didn’t expect to get this far. This is probably the fastest I’ve modeled anything. I’m just glad it doesn’t suck as bad as my old stuff.

thought this might interest you  (there are some pretty good Mario shots in there too)

1 was awesome, and it looks like 2 will be even better

An update! Fixed the hands and the hair somewhat. Shaders STILL need work and the arms are a little too thick.

@Meshweaver YES!! Mario Galaxy 2 looks awesome! I’ve already seen that trailer multiple times

actually, the arms look kinda the right size to me…maybe just very slightly too thick, but not that much… and the hands are awesome!

edit: just noticed that in one of your previous pics, Mario is looking at the camera, as if thinking “what is that camera doing there?” lol

Dude, you should make a low poly model and bake normals with that one. That would look awesome. It already does look awesome don’t get me wrong

Eh, I probably won’t go baking textures or anything (I’d rather make some animations or something with it, even though I’m terrible at it). As for being low-poly, I’ve kept it pretty much as low poly as I could within my abilities.

Also, WIRES!!! The hands annoy me somewhat, but I’m happy with them. Now it’s about time to rig the guy.

He means that you should turn it into a nice game model…
That would be awesome!
Dude! I would kill for a nice, lowpoly Mario model!
If you would fine no use for it, I’m sure the community would.
Cheers! - YA

@YA Yeah, I knew what he meant, I just mean I’m not too good at making stuff low poly from a subsurfed model (maybe it’s because I’ve never done it before :-/) and I really have no experience whatsoever with baking normal maps, although it doesn’t look too very hard. After I finish the model itself, I’d be glad to post the .blend file if anybody wants it… I can’t go, y’know, selling it or anything, since it is Mario after all :stuck_out_tongue:

lol

wow, rigging is next? does that mean…animated Mario?

looks awesome, BumpyMonkey  and the mesh looks nice and clean too
