Pretty much I want to do what this addon does but it no longer functions

Also the files have very different names I dont have hundreds of files with the same name : example
car.png
car.png.001
car.png.002
truck.png
truck.png.001
truck.png.002
box.png
box.png.001
box.png.002
But imagine thousands of objects like this, I could never do it by hand
which blender version are you using? The «Clean Images Datablock» is working ok, at least in version 2.77 (abf6f08)
From what I see in the code, there are no changes at that part of the API…
what is the link for this addon or is it included ?

I am using 2.78 It I dont think it gave an error it just didnt do anything im my certain scenario. Someone I work with wrote a script for me and it does a great job!
