I love working in the solid mode at the moment, i get so very inspired and everything is so clean and awesome looking with the “cavity” option that gives highlights to all sharp corners. How can i have more than one color in this view? I want different matcaps to different parts. Im working on sound systems and interior stuff for a techno club and it almost designs itself with this cavity visual style!
Alternatively, can i achieve the cavity SUPER NICE AWESOME COOL look in any other way that lets me change individual object colors?
Just create a scene with a sphere and an orthographic camera, set the render width and height the same (i.e. 512x512), and move/scale the camera so that the sphere is centered and touching the borders of the rendered view.
Make your material and environment as you want, render, and save the image. Then it’s just a matter of installing that image in the MatCap preferences window.
You can see how the Matcaps in blender look like if you browse into {blender_folder}\{version}\datafiles\studiolights\matcap\. Your matcap should have the same layout.
A really quick way is to use Random Color in Viewport Shading, and use your favourite Matcap in combination with that – the colours mix and can look pretty nice.
In the material settings, you will see a section called “viewport display”. There, you can change the viewport color of individual materials. There are also options for metallic and roughness, but those don’t work in matcap mode.
