MaxBlend Object Transfer — Blender ↔ 3ds Max FBX Bridge Add on

Hi everyone!

I’ve been working on a small tool called MaxBlend Object Transfer to make moving assets between Blender and 3ds Max a little easier.

I often work between both applications and found myself repeatedly fixing things after an FBX transfer, especially Collections/Layers, Material Slots, and Material IDs. So I decided to build a tool around that workflow.
What it does

Blender → 3ds Max

  • Export selected objects through FBX
  • Blender Collections → 3ds Max Layers
  • Sync Material Slots and Material IDs
  • Remove unused Material Slots
  • Keep Material Slot order consistent
  • Optional Apply Transform / Apply Modifiers
  • Optional Triangulation
  • Smooth Groups / Hard Edges support

3ds Max → Blender

  • Import the exchanged FBX back into Blender
  • Restore Collection structure
  • Restore material assignments
  • Restore Material ID relationships
  • World Rescale / global scale control

Material ID Sync

One of the features I find particularly useful is the Material ID synchronization.

Instead of manually checking and fixing Material IDs after moving an asset between Blender and 3ds Max, MaxBlend can keep the Material Slot order and assignments synchronized during the transfer.

The basic workflow is:

Blender → Export → 3ds Max → Work → Export → Blender

while keeping the material structure more consistent between the two applications.

Free for now :tada:

I’m currently making MaxBlend Object Transfer free, so if you work with Blender and 3ds Max, feel free to give it a try.
