Medieval Sword

Artstation was having an Arthurian design competition, and I got inspired! Check it out there for more images.

It’s fairly plain in its design, which I kind of like. This wouldn’t be a kings sword, but maybe like a mid-tier knight’s sword.

The main thing I did differently for this model from others in the past was that I sculpted it first. This had its advantages and disadvantages. In the future, I probably won’t try to sculpt everything as I did here. Just certain peices. The hilt piece was very fun to sculpt, and I was able to discover some unique contours through that process. The other pieces though, I basically modeled them up from scratch ignoring their sculpts. So sculpting was a waste of time.

I kind of came up with the design as I went. The power of sculpting I guess.
