So I downloaded blender 2.68 today and it seems to me that they did some cycles work, because this rendered very quickly on my machine. Anyways , Lucy is a cartoon character I am working on, not quite sure what I am going to do with her, but here’s a start :D. Please give me any C&C !
Thanks everyone

[Pictured Are From Newest To Oldest]
Not much to post, but here’s a small update. I cleaned up my edge-loops and updated the eye texture and played with the sss. I still have to make hair, and am not sure if I am even going to give her ears, it depends on her hair. I am still going to unwrap her and see if I can define her features a bit more, I.E. her eyes, nose, and mouth. Again c&c is welcome and encouraged

Lucy is a little tough to latch on to for the viewer in my opinion. Her better eye textures are good work. It’s not a face I can see personality in yet and there are no detailed features to study yet. For better C&C, can you point us in the right direction - do you want her to be a human at a grocery store, a child at the park, a crash landed alien, is she a living toy? How do you see her animated?
I don’t have a serious direction for her just yet, but hopefully I’ll have an idea set pretty soon. I was thinking maybe a little girl originally, but now I think maybe more of an adult character. Maybe a warrior of some kind. I can say she will be animated and have the rest of her body modeled hopefully in the next few days !
I am pretty much done with modeling her face it seems, but I haven’t applied everything just in case I want to make a symmetrical adjustment. I updated the eyes a bit more and made the eyes and mouth a bit more noticeable and fixed wires even more. But still have some funny areas by the mouth.
I am currently working on her hair and eyelashes. I think she’s looking pretty good but am still unsure of how I want her hair to look exactly. Also, if any of you know easier ways to create hair let me know !
As always tear it to shreds if you can getting better is my main focus!

Another update ! Still have to work on the mouth some although I fix and tweak it more each time, but I started working on the teeth and that’s really the only “Big” update for today, I am going to do a paint over for hair I think on the next update because her current look is not up to snuff haha. So tell me what you think
Edit: I also think I know the direction I will be heading now haha, I think she will be a medieval warrior/knight. We’ll see how everything plays out though
Edit 2: Didn’t want to spam the WIP forum so I just added this in. About 6 Heads tall I think is a good size for her, obviously a lot of body work to do yet and some of the proportion errors are there on purpose however, point them out to me if/when you see them she is built like a skinny linebacker she can take your crits
input is greatly appreciated on the body !

Okay, minor update here finally got some time to work on her a little bit. I modeled out some boots for her and fixed her lips a bit, I’m still not sure if I like the way they turned out and may fix the mouth some more, but for now, it’ll do.
I also am starting to try modeling more than just her boots, but I have to get an idea of what I want for her body before I start posting pics of it, I am thinking a collared jacket, or maybe leatherish armor.
Comments and Crits are, as always, welcome !

“built like a skinny linebacker,” that’s funny! Lucy is surprising me. As you’re moving forward, you’re tying in a lot of decisions to similar decisions that are resulting in a true style and appearing less like stabs. Now having her come together with hair and clothing I’m curious about her environment and if any of it can cross over to her via necklace, makeup or something.
If you add more details to her accessories, I might have to insist on nostrils to keep that balance of detail, but although I’d like to see her nose develop a little further, if her progress remains at this steady level of detail, I think you might be on to a good thing if the motion is smooth.
Considering her ability to take crits, her tops lids could stand to come down to the top of her pupils. It will relax her gaze and provide lots of room for emotion when the time comes. A second layer of hair will help override the discovery that she’s missing ears and add validity to the shape of the back of her head from this front view.
Thanks for the comments and the critiques !
Her environment heavily depends on the style of clothes I end up giving her. I am currently thinking of giving her a collared jacket almost piratey but am still not sure yet. I am just now laying out the clothes for the body. I have made her gloves though although they may be a little too plain for my taste atm, but I will update those later. I will however be leaving her body how its, as far as not modeling in her bosom or otherwise. This is just because there is not any reason to seeing as she will be fully clothed throughout the animation process.
I agree with the eye crit and I think that I will be doing that when I start rigging I think that is how her rig will be. As far as the nose, I would like to put a little more detail into it whether or not nostrils will be apart of it is yet to be determined, but I think it’s a pretty safe assumption that I will or at least define the nose a bit more.
Her hair is no where near complete haha this is just a similar hairstyle as to what I think I will be giving her.
Anyways here’s a small update of her body… I think I will be doing a quick paint over for my next update so you can see what I am considering doing with her as far as hair and clothing goes !
Thanks,
-Peter

Okay just a quick update here before I go to sleep seeing as it is almost 2am here and I have to be up in 5 hours haha. Basically I think I have decided on a pirate look for her. I am currently making her peasant shirt. I updated the gloves by giving them spiked knuckles and a few areas where they outline the fingers better. I still have some work to do on her shirt before moving to pants. I defined her breasts a little bit via her shirt and I think I am going to button her shir in one area so to not show any cleavage. Anyway, I am progressing with her at a pretty constant rate I feel so hopefully I can move onto texturing very soon.
Here’s my to do list:
- Finish shirt
- Model Pants
- Model jacket
- Update nose
- Model Accessories (Swords, Gun, Jewlry, Hat/Bandana, etc)
- Model a cleaner hairstyle
- Cleanup!
- Texture
- Rig
- Environment’
So as you can see there is still a lot of work, but hopefully it will be done soon!
Again C&C Welcome and definitely encouraged, even if you think you see something that looks wrong post it so I can fix/make sure it looks great !

Okay, new update ! Yay!
I have modeled in the jacket, please give me some crits on it because to me it seems too much like a suit jacket, but what do you all think? I also finished the pants for the most part, but towards the boots looks like i need to do fix them because I didn’t really get the effect I was looking for.
Still have hair to do, but pretty soon I am up to creating nicer hair, then accessories and then rigging (Which is going to be a terrible pain with all of her clothes) and texturing.
Thanks in advance for any help given !

Another small update.
So I modeled her a sword ! I’m not sure if I am going to be modeling a pistol or not yet, but I did start texturing and rigging. I have sooo much to do with her as far as rigging and texturing goes it’s unbelievable haha! But i’ll be working on it, and if anyone’s got some good tutorials on texturing/rigging that’d be nice too as I am definitely no expert.
The first image is her sword the next image is a test to see how well she would bend… apparently she can bend a little too well… i.e. her face and spine and legs lol. But all comments and crits are welcome !
P.S. Is there a way to stop the bones from scaling the mesh as they move as you can see by the arms it looks like they’re kind of being scaled down when I move the bone.
Thanks

the head is sitting too far backward, imo. also, the abdomen area just above the groin has a slight crease. imo, it should bulge out slightly, and not have a crease.
Thanks for the comments, I fixed those two errors, I think lol, I updated some textures on her face and am trying to use the hair particles in blender… this is just a test haha not the final hair lol but, I think I want the hair roots to be kind of large like that for the sake of being “toonish” anyways comments are appreciated as always. I will be doing textures on the shirt coat and pants next.
C&C Welcome
