My entry to BlenderGuru’s Fantasy Competition submitted August 29th, thought I’d post it up here as well.
Bit of a learning curve, but a lot of fun! Inspired by concept art from ‘The Last Guardian’, a game about a boy and a giant, ultimately friendly, mythical beast, “Touriko” (Trico). The piece aims to portray Touriko’s initial suspicion’s and weariness upon meeting the boy, as they (quite literally!) size each other up.
If you like it, head on over to my Artstation Post and hit that thumbs up button- it would help me out a lot!
You can also check it out here on CGSociety.
I’m also aiming to put together some breakdown videos over the next week, so watch this space!
Created in Blender 2.78, Cycles and Photoshop. Substance B2M was used for several of the textures.
On top of these there is also a process and compositing breakdown animation that’s too big to host on BA, once again you can head over to my Artstation to check it out.
This is a beautifully crafted image, the creature work and the atmosphere around it is well executed.
I just wish it looked a little less fuzzy around the edges of the boy and the areas impacted by DoF (did you denoise manually in a paint program by any chance)? Have you tried the new denoising in 2.79?
