Megas XLR Giant Robot

I was making Megas from the coolest giant robot cartoon ever.
I was having some problems with putting decals on it’s shiny surface:
the decals become shiny as well instead of being opaque like they should.
Does anyone know what is going wrong here?

Ah I remember Megas XLR from the days of Saturday morning cartoons! Looking good so far. I got nothing to crit. Good luck!

You will probably have to make decal maps for specularity and hardness as well. A solid shade of gray or black, dependending on how much gloss and reflections you want to cut down, in the same shape, size and place as the color map of the decal.
EDIT: Oops, I forgot to say, nice model, btw.

I never saw that cartoon, I don’t know where that robot is from, but I know it kicks ass because it features in a really nice showdown scene here:

to bad this one is one hiatus…

OK can someone tell me how to make and use these spec and hard maps.

Here’s the updated version. I’ve gotten a lot father, with GOOD decals.

Looks fantastic. You’ve got a good eye for colour I see.
Can’t wait to see the final render!

After about a hundred years I finally almost finished this yeah!

but after I added some more parts after that render the little decal on the chest turned black. but only when its rendered this has happen in other things befor but Ive never figured it out can anyone help me?

other than that I need to do the car way better you cant tell from here but it basically box with wheels , grill, and head lights.

then animation:D.

Hey Zenoth, like your model, good job! I’m also working on a mecha model right now. Do you have any links to good rigging tutorials for non-organic models like this? I would appreciate it! Cheers.

almost reminds me of voltron, Nice materials

well I just realized the reason for the decale loss was just turning on “use nodes” for the cest tex. I got little click happy when demonstrating all of blenders windows to a friend :o.

Rigging? I just wingged it. and it came out cluncky but still workable if you know what I mean. thouse shoulder things are a real pain. I was actually looking for some advice on that.

yeah I love the matiereal on his feet. that was a really good opps.

Heres what I added to its back, is that right? I cant find a picture of that part!

Hey, lookin’ good!
Did you want me to do the car or was I just supposed to get you pictures of it and you do it yourself?
Up next, A Glorft mech.
I can’t wait!
