Mesh severely distorting on move.

I’m not sure what happened but now when I select anything to move it in edit mode the vertices get all thrown out of wack. It doesn’t happen when I’m in front view or side view but any other view messes up the moved part.
Update: I guess my blend file was messed up. I imported the models to a new blend and it doesn’t do it anymore.

I’ve done it so many times that it’s now really obvious what it looks like. But the first time those jumping vertices are quite a surprise, aren’t they?
