Meshes merge when translated near each other

Something weird is happening with a scene I’ve been working on.

  1. Add a cube mesh
  2. Reposition the 3D cursor insertion point elsewhere
  3. Add another cube mesh

These meshes work as normal, selecting one or the other will translate that one mesh.

  1. Translate one cube mesh near the other cube, touching
  2. Translate it somewhere else

Something happens after 4 such that in 5 when the cube is moved, rotated or scaled… both meshes are affected. moves the cube, the other cube is now attached. They are not joined nor parent-child.

PS: Wow even worse, as I double-check those statements… now it’s fine! Cannot recreate. So confused! Any ideas? Thanks!

You didn’t specify what version of Blender you have, but in Edit mode, in the Mesh menu, there is a checkbox for Automerge Editing. Perhaps you have that checked?

Blender 2.79, cannot reproduce and it wasn’t Automerge Editing… 17 days later and this has never happened again (thankfully).

Thanks for your reply… automerge seems like a thing perhaps useful in the future!

Proportional Editing, was the answer here… I somehow turned it on (with O).

This happened again to me today, finally all these months later… fortunately I’d just turned that mode on so knew what the cause was.
