Minigun

this is a project my friend and i are undertaking… for no particular reason… Jethro did the concept art and criticizes everything while i model it. any input is welcome.

is the back part supposed to be concave? ( i mean the round flat plate where the barrels meet the bakc part)

Can you show the reference image?

well here’s the reference image…

lol as you may have noticed, it’s not, in fact a reference image so much as concept art (drawn by Jethro)

and here’s our progress thus far

and to answer your question; yes, the ring around the barrels does tend slightly inward.

It’s looking really cool. The only thing I would consider is that this looks impressive enough to warrant sitting on a 2pod or 3pod and since that would be have to be in the back, I think it would look cool if it had some kind of shoulder harnesses or trigger handles hanging out the back. Just thinking out loud, keep going it looks great!

i like the idea about the shoulder harness. so far we’ve been trying to find a way for him(the little chap with the gas mask) to suspend but haven’t come up with much, however, branching from your shoulder harness idea, we could put a bar going under his left arm which would hold him there…

see what you think

well we settled for attaching him by his head… a cross bar with an elbow and a short pole which is riveted to the top of his noggin. i would post some pics, but unfortunately i’m too lazy to turn on my other pc. i’ve started texturing which has gone fairly… ok…ish so far. however, i really need an external renderer. obviously the one of choice would be Yafaray, unfortunately, as most using widows 7 would relate to, it’s more trouble than it’s worth. i therefore tried Luxrender (or something with LUX in it) which seems to use photon mapping, but it kept on crashing. my question, therefore, is which other external render engines would be recommended?
