Mirror head problem.

Yesterday i was trying to do my first character in Blender. Its gonna be to my portfolio and i am starting with the head, when i am done i am gonna try do paint it with projection paint.

So to the problem. In 2.49 you can only have one background image so when use a front photo in the front view and later switch to side view the same image shows again. So i put just a plane in the side view and assigned a material with the sideview picture applied to it and when in textured mode that image covers the background image. so far so good. but when i try to enter wirframe mode from side so that i can see properly what i am doing to the mesh the image offcourse goes away. . how can i get around this ?

2.5 seems to be perfect for this but i cant find center cursor there ! ( i need to do this correctly before i apply the mirror modifier to the box).

i really liked this tutorial but blender doesnt seem to have anything even near edge ring tool. loopcut doesnt think at all like that. any ideas ?

thanks // Jimmy

You can add background pics in Side View.

Goto F7 buttons on the head model and set Drawmode to wire.
