Mirror modifier fail

Ok, so I tried to add a mirror modifier to an axe, but that orange dot is too far below and the mirror didn’t work.
How do I fix that?

Reset the objects origin. Position the 3d curser where you want it (use the Shift+S option for positioning options) and then Ctrl+Alt+Shift+C / origin to 3d curser
