Missing FBX file textures

Hi,

Not sure if I do something wrong but I can’t find any textures for my FBX files. This set was bought on 3dbaza website. Once I unzipped folder I only got this FBX files. No map folder or any maps. I believe there p[hysicly have to be maps to relink them. If there is none what can I relink otherwise? Nevertheless I have tried to relink textures through “find missing files” but it doesn’t work. Having said that material properties show active material name is there. I have replay from seller saying following:

“All texture coordinates on the models are saved, you need to assign texture paths when you customize materials for your renderer. Regarding model 134343 there is the same, you can use any of the files and assign textures there, they will be displayed correctly”

Do you think guys you could take a look at the file ?

137367.FBX (4.1 MB)

Many thanks,
T

Hmm, as far as i know FBX doesn’t stores textures in the file, they are extra images…

From my experience FBX texture maps come a a separate files which normally are present however being somewhat noob I am not sure how exactly it works.

This is what I have in response to my enquiry from asset seller:

“All texture coordinates on the models are saved, you need to assign texture paths when you customize materials for your renderer. Regarding model 134343 there is the same, you can use any of the files and assign textures there, they will be displayed correctly”

Which makes me wonder what I am missing here?

This is a DIY file, ie. make your own textures…
There are texture slots and the best way to use and figure them out is to …

  1. Select an object, and enter edit mode…de-select all…
  2. Select the Material slot in the N-Panel///and look at what materials are assigned…
  3. ( example Light) has 4 materials, one is hidden ( filament) behind the glass bulb…
Select a material ( you are still in edit mode), and then select > Select under the outline, and make your texture ( procedural or PBR or just set in the Principled…
  4. hit Assign when done with that texture…
  5. select next and Repeat 1-4…

Hi RSEhlers,

Thanks so much for stepping in. As far as I understand whoever did file conversion for this set could potentially add the texture maps, right ?

I was wondering why the filament is hidden and how to unhidden it?

Thanks
T

Yes, they could…it could even be a pure PBR setup…but it is doubtful they would do so, since they didn’t do it in the first place…

The filament is hidden as it is inside a glass bulb…so select the bulb and add transparent glass shader ( hide Back faces and cull back faces )

I have to admit I have no idea what you talking but that’s my limitations. The way I understand at some point the filament and the glass bulb were made as two separate parts ( well glass bulb as part of the light) and the filament as the separate object. Then somehow filament is hidden. Would you be willing to explain me the essentials of this method? I would be happy to follow some tutorial if you can link so it would save your time.

Many thanks
T

Yes, you are correct, at least in part. They are 2 separate meshes, but the filament is hidden because there hasn’t been a transparent material applied to the Bulb/glass part, you will have to do that. One good thing is all the items have a material assigned to the object ( you will have to add a texture, either an image texture or a procedural…later on when you get more fluent in using Blender you could also go in and texture paint this model…
