Model all white in textured mode

I am using blender 2.57 and am trying to map the baked image of a higher resolution model onto a lower poly model. However, when I map it and try to view it in textured mode in the viewport the model is entirely white. Similarly when I render the model it is completely white. The presence or absence of a light in the scene has no effect. Can anyone help me with what I am doing wrong?

Well I didn’t exactly figure out how to fix it, but I brought my models into a new file with the default blender settings and it started working correctly
