This tutorial teaches you how to model a ring in Blender, simply by editing a torus. Once the ring is modelled, I show you to use external renderers. In this case, I will use the external renderer Indigo. If you know what Indigo is you will know that is costs around $700. Thankfully, Indigo has a free version, so I will use that. I’m providing two links. One goes to the tutorial on Vimeo, and the other goes to my site. I recommend you look at the video on my site, as I not only show you the finished result, but I explain what you learn in this tutorial. However, if you would like to watch the video in HD, watch it on Vimeo. Thanks!

anyone???
great tutorial!! I like it a lot!!!
nice tut but the ring is really just a ring, why din’t you add some detail? like onraments you? you could ad an empty thena an array and just rotate the part of the onrament around it. small things make you see bigger thingsd.
I see what you mean…(unless you have bad english please type in a clearer way, because it is hard to understand what you wrote.)Anyway, I understand about the detail…really the main part of the tutorial was to teach you how to use external renderers, not to add detail to the ring, which is why in the beginning I used a Suzanne. If you like the tut then that’s what I wanted to achieve.
I think he said:

my English is great. I wrote my previous post under time pressure. But if you wanted to demonstrate how to use an external render why don’t you use something that really shows the power of it. Multiple materials would do this.
Hi
as a jewelry designer I would say that this ring is a little mh bland.
Also the rendering itself feels not really polished as well. You can
add more detail with additional geometry or textured surfaces
either sculpted or displaced with a texture.
Take a look at how rings are presented in advertisement and then
maybe use that as an inspiration to push this tutorial on a higher level.

I think I see what you all mean. I don’t think I will redo the tut because then I would have to erase the views and but it on my site all over again. But I can provide some new renders, because what you are all saying makes sense.
I would love to try it, too bad videos are blocked at school. I’m sure it would have been a nice tutorial though.
learn from mistakes not books
learn from mistakes not books
Lol…and what does that mean?
I think it means something from along the lines of, learn from you mistakes and work off of them, dont just read a book (or in this case tutorial) and expect to know everything.
@larmannjan Correct me if Im wrong please
Oh, I suppose that is correct. It’s certainly been a true thing for me, although I have depended a lot on the books (or tutorials).
;D well it seemed correct to me, unfortunately, i cant even take your tutorial now, because my blender wont even open without crashing
