Modeling Cloths and armor

Hi Blender Community!

Practicing low-poly character modeling. Martyisnothere from cghub graciously let me use his some concept art for a chibi link to practice with.

I have a fair base-mesh and I am unsure of how to proceed to the next step to get the things like his clothing, arm guards, hat ect. done. Should I try and model them in the base-mesh? Should I sculpt them out and then bake that detail in? Or make them separate pieces?

Thanks in advance!

Low poly game character is generally in one piece. Clothing is painted on UV texture.

instead of adding another mesh ontop of the character as clothes, try modifying the mesh a little to make them look like clothes already. try extruding and scaling or something like that, then texture it. this method should work, and will keep your poly-count down (if thats something you’re watching).

Good luck
