I am trying to model this object and was wondering what the best method would be? I thought about using the Boolean modifier but I’m not sure that would be the best way.
You could make that shape with a basic 32 sided cylinder, some insets, some extrudes, a couple bevels, and a subsurf modifier.
Make a cylinder, shrink it down, grab the top face, inset it a bit so you have a border, extrude that until you have a smaller cylinder set on top of it. Once you’ve done that, grab every other edge on the side of your cylinder, then shrink it inward until you have a nice multipointed star type shape. There, grab all your horizontal edges, and bevel them so you have a slight lip on each. Then apply a subsurf modifier, and if you did things right, you’ll end up with this:
