Modelling eyes and mouth help!

Hi, I am basically stuck on these few points:

(1) It seems that some modellers prefer an equal no. of vertices on top and bottom of the eye

… while some add in an additional middle line

What is the differences between the two and which is better?

(2) I also can’t seem to find good tutorials for the eyes/eyelids and mouth, could you guys point me to some good references/tutorials please.

Thank you!

Additional middle vertice

I really don’t think one is more right than the other. I think it more depends on the shape of the eye of the model you are going for. If it is an angled almond shape then the centerline might not be exactly right down the middle. The eyelids have always given me problems as well and take me the longest to get right. But again I just typically do them so that the edge flow is smooth around the eyelid and the areas they flow out to on the rest of the face.
Just enough to get the basic layout is a good start then you can add the additional geometry to get better refined details.
