Monarch Butterfly

My first post in a loooooonnnnggg time. Blender Artists has gotten really good since then! This butterfly was made in 3DCoat and Blender. Krita for the plant textures. I used a Geometry Nodes tool to make the plants - I’ll post about that some time in the near future.

Here it is on ArtStation. Please give it a like. Thanks

This is really impressive, I could mistake it for a photo (and I don’t say that lightly or often). Nice work!

Thanks! I think it’s because of the camera. I spent a lot of time looking at photographs of insects and they always have a long enough focal-length to look almost orthographic (since bugs are tiny, even a 24mm camera is like a 120mm camera at that scale), paired with a deep depth-of-field (for the same reason). So I made the model 4-inches big and used a 70mm camera with DoF and bokeh. I also lit it really carefully. I think that’s why it looks “photographic”. Thanks again
