So, I’m modeling the Duncan yo-yo character, Mongu. I’m just doing it for fun, its not like they hired me or anything. Just some basic subsurf modeling. He’s probably based off of domo-kun… I’m uncertain. But he’s a popular character, and everyone in the yoyoing community loves him.
I’m going to add the accessories later, so they aren’t attatched to the mesh when I’m animating him.

Current progress:
A quick pose with a temporary armature, fixed fur, fixed animation on said fur.
My best advice would be to model body, arms and legs with 8 edged cylinders instead of block modeling. This will help it get a rounder look with less subsurf lvls.
i agree with Black Boe, you really need a lot of strands to get nice looking fur. Strand mapping
with the alpha value fading to zero is also a good idea. Don’t forget to turn on z-transparency
in your fur material to make the fur really look fluffy. Z-Transparency for fur will increase the render
time a lot, but i think it’s worth it…
