When rendering, the part that contains the eyes of the character doesn’t get blurred. Leave out the eyes and all is ok. Does anybody have a clue? The eyes are seperate meshes.

just turn down the blur to .15, not at the default .5. You’re getting too much blurring.
Sorry, I called it motion blur. In fact it was vector blurred. I tried all settings, but nothing helps.
you mean you are using the composite node vector blur? plz post screenshot. If so, that is just an approximation of motion blur, so it wont look the same. Also you may not be includeing the eye mesh on the renderlayer, so the eyes are not blurred. In which case you either include them or composite them in for a very startling scary effect.
Found it, Roger!
Yes I was using the composite node editor, and the pics in my first post are just that. Turned out that the problem was in the cornea material of the eye mesh. It uses Z tranparency, and that causes some kind of transparent beam at rendertime. Just switching to Ray transparency cured it. Still wonder if Z transp doesn’t work well with vector blur in general or that it’s something else.
Thanx for your time.
