Hello!
At the end of the year I don’t have much free time to play with Blender… but I found a old project that I’ve done to a commercial and I think that it is a interesting Blender render.
Wow, that’s quite a nice one, and considerably better than the one I was working on (the SSS was set up wrong, so the cheese looked insanely rotten).
The metal is great, and I love how you’ve made the edges rough (looking at least), I tried displacement and old fashioned modelling, but it was all too exaggerated.
The only crit I have is that the cheeseholder appears to already be as low as it can go, but the trap hasn’t sprung, and that the springs seem to be facing the wrong way, they’d be pushing into the trap instead of against the neck-cutty part.
But ignore my stupid niggles, it looks great.
It needs a logo, all those mouse traps have some kind of red print on them. No mouse trap is made out of wood that nice.
Great work!
you may want to alter the wood texture a bit these traps are usually made of pine and definitely not varnished. It looks more like a polished hard wood floor.
love the DOF!
Very very cool, a nice blend of cartoon and realism. Of course, as it’s been pointed out, it looks like a beautiful hardwood floor and not really a mouse trap.
This was one of my reference images… but for the rest of the commercial it needs to be more clean and beauty wood than a simple peace of rough wood.
I agree with all of you about the fidelity with the real mouse trap, but it was used in a commercial and needed to match with the rest of the commercial.
Sorry to share just a part of the commercial, but just this was made in Blender.
I think this is a “Beauty mouse trap”, not a “Real mouse trap”.
I didn’t think about real one, just render and share.
But you all are right. Thank’s for comments.
This thread inspire me this image.
This satyrical picture point out “consumption credit”.

I’ve only modeled mouse-trap (i grabbed the “wood family” meshes on the net, but i dont’t remember where… perhaps here).
I posted this picture on this blog whith a french title : “Piège à con… sommateurs” (litterally “Trap for con…sumer”).
