I just built a new computer to handle animating my character since I was building this on a laptop. I exported my project with all the materials and all packed into the blender file. But when Imoved it to the new computer, only part of the character appeared and the rig seems shortened. Anyone have any ideas what this could possibly be?
I was on Mac laptop and then moved things to a new computer I built that works very well including my new graphics card.
you should have a folder to contain all your blendering things, with relative paths on all datablocks. that way you can just pick up and move the whole folder where ever you please and not even notice a thing.
I have one folder where all my blender items ares located but not in the same applications folder that the blender program is located. Are you saying all of this should be in the same folder where the application is located?
You explicitly state that you “exported” the project. If so, to what format (FBX etc.)?
If you saved the project instead (which is something entirely different than exporting it), it should open exactly the same way on the desktop as it did on the notebook. If it doesn’t, well, you will have to find out why… For example: Do both machines use the same version of Blender? Are there scripts in the file that need to be allowed to run on loading?
It was exported as a blend file but I found the problem. Actually makes me feel stupid but I used rigify and in the new install the addon was not selected. All working now
For future reference and to avoid terminological confusion: Save usually writes the file in the format that is native to the application or in the same format as the file was opened in. Export converts an application’s native format to another, usually external one and typically implies that there is some information lost during the processes.
Blender use the methodology on how your computer’s API for saving. This is a common problem if you use a cloud service or a hackers are diverting your file to offsite. Check the file size on your computer versus the “saved file.” If the saved file is smaller than the computer file, you have to take your time. You also have to use the computer eject process when it tell you to take out the thumb drive instead of yanking the thumb drive. If the file size is larger than run a virus scan of your computer. Hacker change your file by add various crap to it.
