Multiresolution Modifier - Multiple Variations?

Hi!

I’ve been working on a sculpt of a rigged character, and while I’ve been able to use the Multires modifier for a single pose, I wanted to see if there was a way to have multiple instances of a multires for one mesh, similar to a shape key. I know that I can duplicate the mesh and create a new modifier off the base, but if I need to change the base model and/or texture paint, I’d like to be able to do everything on a single mesh. Does anyone know if this is possible?
