My Blender 2.48 Crash when I render

Hello,

I have made a monster. Before I put some bones and emptys into the body I try to render. No way,. Blender crash from my iMac OS X intel Leopard.
Maybe the hair making trubble. Render window is black.

I try to attach my blender file, I got this messages

Please, maybe somone out ther now how to solv the problem.

The ultra thick hair may be the reason, you should probably reduce the amount of strands and turn on the adaptive render option. Without the adaptive rendering the amount of faces can rack up by incredible amounts, enough and your computer runs out of memory.
