After months of breaking my brain, I present my USA Deluxe Fender Stratocaster Custom build. I made the actual guitar during lockdown and have been meaning to build it in Blender for a few years.
There are some rather tricky rigging and animation challenges involved, in particular the strings which not only wind round the tuner capstans and stretch as they do so, but also respond to the trem action and fine tuners of the Kahler.
I built this model as a prop for my studio scene (Ziggy the spider, the Robot Arm and the CrowBot etc), some of which you can see in the background and in the reflections. It is accurately to scale, using a digital vernier caliper.
The audio is my cover of part of a well known Floyd solo, made using Cubase 11 Pro and the actual guitar featured here.
That is really incredible attention to detail and the render is clean as a whistle. The sound is not playing for me here, so I canât tell what that solo is, but a little bit of trivia, the guitar player I used in my steampunk video used to play with Roger Waters from PF.
Did you create an HDRI environment of your studio? The lighting and reflections are amazing.
Amazing that snippet about Roger!! He wrote the song I covered!. If youâd like to catch this in full original resolution (very large file), check it here:
The studio is not an HDRI. Itâs actually a full on model with other animated props in it. My newest one, for which I still havenât done the audio yet (slacker!), is here:
I have in my head this feature movie starring an alien visitor who takes on the form of a spider to avoid detection. A lot of what I do is in this direction, if I live long enough to make it all. In the meantime, itâs great fun!
I donât understand why you arenât hearing the sound. I can hear audio on all the resolutions of the animation. Are you sure you donât have it muted somehow? Could it be a copyright block? Do we get that happen here? I have an Artstation here if that helps:
Thank you! Always wanted to cover the whole track and never got to play it live. It was always too much work for the other band members to learn it and get it tight. I should put in the time to complete it seeing as I learnt it all those years ago!
Well I donât know whatâs going on for me but I am really intrigued now. I downloaded the file and there is an audio track but there is no audio in it. I tried it in Logic, VLC, Handbrake, in iMovie, and in Blender itself:
You are the only person saying there is no audio. It sounds like a problem between you and the internet. This is honestly the weirdest symptom I have ever seen, so I donât have any idea where to suggest you look, but somethingâŚ
âŚwait âŚwhere in the video are you getting that image from?
I know, itâs puzzling. There is an audio track but itâs completely silent. I both tried from the web browser and directly downloaded it.
Iâm going to have another go a bit later see if I canât get to the bottom of it. It seems to have set of an OCD pathway in my brain so I do want to try and get it resolved.
May I quote from my initial post to you regarding the ToyWalk link:
âThe studio is not an HDRI. Itâs actually a full on model with other animated props in it. My newest one, for which I still havenât done the audio yet (slacker!), is here:â
I have a BS in computer science, and have been programming the beasts since I was 11 ⌠but if anyone asks me to fix their VCR (or Blu-Ray player) to stop blinking 12:00 I have to tell them I canât. (Which is the short version of I can, but it wonât stick.)
tl;dr: Glad you can laugh at dumb mistakes, but itâs not really your fault anyway. Computers regularly make simple things harder than they ought to be.
Computers also made ridiculously complicated things possible that were totally impossible before. Weâre just mad enough to want to get involved in that.
I have this tendency to want to make things in Blender that I canât find tutorials about.
