After about a month of reading through alot of tutorials and watching video tutorials.
And some practice I made my first and second character animations.
I used the basic rig from the “BSOD/Introduction to Character Animation” tutorial.
I am now quite interested to see how other rigs work and would like to animate these characters in a short movie.
I read that drawing thumbnails aids alot in making your characters movements make sense and lays down some solid planning. So I guess I will follow that route and see if I can make my characters more alive and captivating…
These are really good, the animations have a nice flow. All of the movements look pretty smooth and normal (for aliens!). The green alien’s ears are very “wiggly!” Storyboarding is extremely helpful in animations. If you’re making a short try drawing up some storyboards and posting them up here. I bet people would like to comment on them with your aliens!
If you want to get into animation with blender a little bit more check out Tony Mullen’s book “Introducing Character Animation with Blender.” It goes through a number of animations with a character called Captain Blender and shows the setup of a complex rig. I’ve been going through the book over the past few weeks, so if you want a quick idea of what to expect you can check out my progress in my blog (link in sig).
The walk is really good, nice how you made all parts of the body move… the other guy didn’t have the same natural flexibility: you’d have one arm, leg, whatever move and the rest remain rigid.
There’s an animation rule-of-thumb that a movement will start at the hips: the hips will move, then the sholder, elbow, hand, fingers.
however: first animation = really really good! way better than mine!
