My first Head

Hey, blender forum,

A little while ago I thought I should model a human head, and I worked on it a bit, leftt it and just came back and touched it up. I am pretty happy with the way it turned out, even happyer about the ear I just added.

but I have lost my motivation, so crits and suggestions would be welcome, and we will see how far down the body I will get.

Head looks great, the ear especially.
Could you show the wire?

Oh, it doesn’t look like first head

First head ever? Haha, that’s a lot better than my first head model. It was … scary. Trust me.

I also would like to see some wire too.

Head is nice. Only a bit defective like containing creases. There’s a really cool tutorial how to make a head. At least a part of it.

hey, thanks,

I hesitate to show the wire because you will see the mess I made when trying to join the ear and the head. I moddled them separately. (don’t ask why

awfulman thanks for the tut. next time I’ll go find tuts before modleing eh? Lol

here is the wire

I have some work to do around the eyes and corners of the mouth as you can see.

I sculpted the ear separately and then joined them hence the dense eye topography

why comment on the sculpted ear? it seems to get you pionts around here lately.

For a first attempt - it’s pretty good. Looks like you modelled it from a front view and pulled the vertices back across the head, looking at the streaking you’ve got from the outer eye corner to the ear. I’d look at that area again - find some ref of cheekbones and how the jaw merges with the skull and neck.

Lower the ear and close the gap from the ear to the eyeball.

If you want to see why, model some basic glasses and see if they fit and how they look.

Your modeling is good on the details, but porpotions are off. Keep on going

Good first attempt. If you’re going to continue in organic modeling, though, you need to learn about edge loops. They will make your modeling life sooo much easier! I shudder to think of all the time I spent pushing verts around on my first grid mesh face, and didn’t come up with anything half so good. Google the TorQ A Better Face Tutorial, and see the Community Journal on this site for the Adrianna head tutorial (I think it’s in volume 2).

Thanks for the comments I’ll work on it some more, but it won’t be really fast since I have some other projects that need doing.

Gmanx: as far as the modling method I pulled out some of the basic shapes of a face just from my imagination to get something to start with to push around, no tuts and no photo referance. (stupid idea) then I used a photo and proportioned things in profile (side view) which explaines lack of some portriat (front view) proportions. That was with out the ear after that was added all the extra loops messed up my original work around the eye and side of the head.

anyway thanks for the crits and tips
