hey all,
I was asked to do a video for a poetry reading next month and so I decided to give matte painting a crack.
Now I not a painter by any stretch of the imagination. So some of the more estute of you will be able to see the tricks that were used a mile away. but any help would be greatly appreciated.
i used gimp and my paint
Nice colours, but it’s a bit blurry. What will it be the background to?
It’s a background to the poet standing still as the camera zooms into her face and back a few times, and every time it does, the seasons have changed. the main theme, i suppose, is using falling leaves as a device for long since past memories.
and the blur was to really hide the fact that i didnt actually paint the mountains. its an actual image of real mountains with a gimp filter that turns it into a patchy painting style. then i went into my paint and used the blend tool.
It will probably work fine then - in a case like that the background should be out of focus a bit. Make sure she wears clothes that match your colour scheme.
Your mentioning falling leaves reminded me of this clip from what has been at times my favourite group, the Medieaval Baebes.
“Make sure she wears clothes that match your colour scheme.”
you know…i hadnt actually thought of that. it seems reeeeeeaaaaalllllyyyyyy obvious. haha thanks
