Hi,
I am starting with 3D/Blender and made this, it’s very easy, but a start. I’m planning on building a entire scene around it. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
EDIT: How do you make a background in the rendered image?
Hi,

What type of scene are you planning? It looks to have an industrial look like a warehouse or shipping yard of some sort. Also, try and see what it looks like with a top on it. From what I can picture with those kind of barrels, they have a top with a smaller round hole in it instead of the entire top of the barrel coming off.
EDIT: like this one:

Hehe, oops, I’ll go and make one…
And how do you open that link, all I get is a message saying, make a local copy, and when I “wget-it” it says forbidden.
Btw that was just a suggestion, if you like it the way it is, by all means leave it that way. Depends what kind of look you’re going for.
For a scene I might need multiple barrels… Diversity
Done this really quick, I’ll make it a bit prettier tomorrow, it’s twelve 'O clock in the Netherlands.
Couldn’t let it, made one with oil as well. The only problem is that it doesn’t really look like oil. Any hints? Thanks!

That oil might work for you.
Thanks a lot!
And do you know how to add a background to your rendering?
I usually build one with a plane as the ground, and other objects on it. As far as adding an image as a background, I know that it’s possible but I don’t know exactly how. IMO its worth the time it takes to make a 3D background.
EDIT: added an example
OK. I’ll do that.
I made something to put the barrels on, but it’s a seperate file… How can I import a barrel in this file?
I have made a little room now, but I have no idea how to make the walls. I gave them a cloud texture, but it doesn’t give the desired effect, the color is ugly too.
I want to make some sort of rear entrance/exit of a big storage building. With some crates and a door offcourse. And my barrels :).
Any hints, c&c? Thanks in advance!
You can use an UV mapped image texture for the walls.
Because I wanted to make some sort of storage facility I thought it would be nice to make such really cheap walls made out of metal. So I searched for a brushed metal texture and made little trenches in my walls. I still don’t think it’s pretty though…
And for the ones who only read the last post: How can you import a excisting .blend into another one?
Made another one. This time I made my own brushed metal with a cloud texture. I also added a tiny bit of reflection (0.08). Which one do you think os prettier?
To import two blend files together go up to the file button and down to append. Then select the file you want to import. The file will then open up so you can select which part of the file you want to import!
I think the last is the better.
