My Free Rigs - Blender 2.63 (and older)

Thanks for the tips Waylow, they are all new to me- plus it’s those little things that can make a huge difference.

Ok here is another one - it’s not my rig but I have updated it for 2.56
http://www.waynedixon.com.au/ManCandy/Mancandy.jpg

This is an updated version on the Famous ManCandy Rig by Bassam Kurdali.

He is starting from scratch with a new mesh for his next release - so I created this updated version that will make it easier to work with the old version of ManCandy in 2.5 AND you can append all your old actions from 2.49.

You should be able to append any old action from 2.49 (or earlier) to this rig and it will work - EXCEPT you will have to key the new IK Arm Sliders

I added some new features and I deleted some unnecessary items.

NEW FEATURES:
World or Local IK (the IK hands can switch between the chest parent or a root bone parent)

Features:
Bone Layers - Turn on/off bone layers with the GUI (it will appear when you select the rig)
Mesh Visibility - turn on/off mesh parts with the GUI (it will appear when you select the rig) - this uses a MaskModifier and Python
IK/FK sliding - this is also done in the GUI (it will appear when you grab any bone in the arms)

Deleted Old Features:
I deleted all the empties that controlled the Hooks (as they can now be parented to bones)
also deleted the old IK/FK slider panel

Tidy:
Parented all the bone widgts to an empty called ALL_WIDGTS - to keep the outliner tidy

Fixed:
fixed the slight misalignment of Foot.L/R and Bone Roll of Knee Stretch.R
Fixed the EyeLattice.L/R weight painting to make it even both sides.
Some bones in the neck were not centred correctly
Both thumbs could not rotate on 3 axis

Didn’t fix:
There is no FK for the Legs - as this is the way it is in the original version

THIS FILE IS FOR BLENDER 2.56

Here it is:

and here is a video explanation of the changes:

UPDATE: the squint bug has now been squashed - thanks to shalpin

(Same DL link)

Hallo Waylow,
I am totally fond of your rigs … hier a primitive action from Pedro  not yet as nice as in your ‘films’ but for a newbie ??

http://petertregarg.host22.com/MyPictures/hond1.gif

But more important, where do I get the information ou your way of working.
Especially in the N menu, where all the parts can be aktivated (visibility e.g.) etc.
HOW DO YOU DO THAT ???
Greets
Peter

I’m not sure exactly what you are asking but I think you are asking “How do you get the buttons on the side window? (the N panel)”

This is an edited version of the Sintel Rig controls (with the visibility added etc)
you can see the pedro.py file in the text editor - this is how the controls are shown there
(you can download the sintel rig from the durian blog)

if you know python (which I am not very good at) you should be able to see what the different sections do - if you don’t it’s a lot of trial and error
this is how I figured it out

also there is heaps of useful info here

Just back at your Pedro rig, and the hint for pedro.py helped! Thank you…

no worries

got another rig coming in the next day or so also
(It’s Frankie)

Hi!

Would you be willing to release this under CC-BY 3.0?

Thanks,
Bart K.

sure, any of my rigs are free to use for whatever you feel like (commercial or non-commericial)
you can credit me if you feel like it, but it’s not necessary
I would like to see where they end up, even if people are just practicing with them

but the Frankie and Mancandy rigs are not my original work
so they are under whatever the original license is -
I believe Frankie is CC attribution 3
and Mancandy is the same (I think)

here is an updated Frankie Rig
http://www.waynedixon.com.au/Frankie/Frankie1.jpg

Let me know if you find any bugs

Here is the file (44MB)

http://www.waynedixon.com.au/Frankie/Frankie.2.57b_PACK.blend

here is the video demo:

http://www.vimeo.com/13665997

(it doesn’t include the World/Local IK arms and Legs)

I also did a tutorial on the Foot Roll drivers:

http://www.vimeo.com/13614039

Do you have a human one?

I don’t have a human rig - but these were based on Kiopaa’s human rig called Pantin
(except for the BBB characters and ManCandy of course)

Pantin Blender 2.49
http://pagesperso-orange.fr/kiopaa3d/Rigging/Pantin_249.blend

Pantin Blender 2.5
http://pagesperso-orange.fr/kiopaa3d/Rigging/Pantin.blend

Here is a video explanation on the rig (the 2.5 version)
http://www.vimeo.com/8775684
and this is Kiopaa’s Pantin thread
http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=173323

I downloaded Mancandy but the mesh is all wrong in object and in pose mode,it only looks like it should in edit mode.It also says file written by newer blender binnary, expect loss of data.where can i get the newer binnary? (i already have the newest version of blender)

what version of Blender are you running?

I have tested it with Alpha 1 - Beta 3 and the current SVN (a bit newer than beta 3)

It will not work with Blender 2.49 - but I’m assuming that you already know that

ahhh,no wonder.downloaded 2.53b and it works like a charm.

Thanks for the great rigs.

this is Bassam Kurdali’s site for the 2.48 version (he is the original creator) - and yep, this one will work with 2.49 - but it won’t have all the other features I added.

http://freefac.org/posts/mancandy-248-rc1

I just did a small update to the Frankie file to fix a 2.5.3 change (same links)

there has been a python change from Blender 2.5.2 to 2.5.3
So I updated the python script so that the Eyeballs disappear with the rest of the head when you push the relevant button

Also please note that the python script will not work correctly with the SVN version of blender (that is newer than the Official 2.5.3 Beta release)
So for the Frankie File - use the official 2.5.3 beta release

also I have nearly completed the updates to Buck (the rabbit) - this will be finished very soon

I have completed the update to Buck

This file is for the official 2.5.6 beta release

http://www.waynedixon.com.au/Buck/Buck2.56.png
New Feature:
Added a world and Local IK for the arms - there is a slider that will change the parent of the IK arms to the Root or the Chest

Features:
Bone layers - now have easy clickable toggle buttons in the side panel
Visibility - you can turn body parts on/off with toggle buttons
FootRoll - removed the python script and replaced it with a python expression and drivers (there is a tutorial in one of my other videos)
Fat Drivers - The Drivers for the Fat have been changed so they work (it is not 100% exactly the same but pretty damn close)
Iris shrink - I have separated the Iris shrink so you can shrink both eyes independently

STILL DID NOT FIX:
I couldn’t fix the drivers for the correctional shapes for the wrists as I couldn’t find a suitable workaround (yet)
(there is no FK legs in the original file - so there are no FK legs in this version, I might add this in the future if people ask)
Here is the file - it’s quite big because the textures are packed in the file (61MB):

http://www.waynedixon.com.au/Buck/Buck.2.5.6_PACK.blend

and here is the video demo - the video doesn’t include the new feature I added (the local world IK arms) but it’s explained in the ManCandy 2.56 video (it works the same way

https://vimeo.com/13845226
)

I can’t even imagine how complex it is to dive into these rigs and fix them, great to see these guys are still usable!

hey guys. blender noob here. when I import the mancandy rig for 2.53 it replaces my interface windows and hotkey settings with whatever the settings were from the creator. it there a way I can just import the rig without replacing my hotkeys and window setup? I choose to use the maya hotkey setup that came with 2.53. I believe that would make an easier transition for me.
