My Star Detroyer

Here is the latest update. I have started to add the detailing to the sides of the Destroyer. This is layer 1 of the detail.

My goodness the level of detail on your models are insane! How long did this take you to make. OMG!!! I do not want to even think about how you will go about trying to textures this.

Here is the newest update of the Star Destroyer. Been working on detailing the sides and I decided that although it seems to be armed to the teeth in the films the actual model had no weapons to speak of so I made some and scattered them about. There is also a very teny-tiny, you’d have to really, really search to find her…Suzanne the Monkey hidden in the decks of the ship…lol

Woahh–SWEET! That’s some insane detail  Yea, in the movies you saw all those lasers being shot but you couldn’t see any laser batteries.

I started working on this at the end of October. As far as texturing, it has one already. The bulk of the greebles on the larger sections of the hull are a texture with displacement. It doesn’t need anything else. The original model is basically white so this is it. I’m not going to dirty it up because with the way the model is created dirty vertex and such doesn’t work very well. Thanks for the compliment by the way.

Thanks! Ya, never really knew where the shots were coming from so I added a bunch of ion cannons to the model.

Finished detailing the sides, now…the engines!

Graet work!
This is a render I have done today with a free model.
Blender + After

Nice! I’m going to try to do something longer then a short fly by but we’ll see if I can pull it off and if my computer will do it. I have a blender built computer but this is going to be a big animation.

A good starfield is very important.

NASA’s Deep Star Map is great, but even in large resolution (16k) works better for wider cameras:

I’m using the resolution independent plugin Maas Digital StarPro™ for After Effects, rendered with exported Blender camera.

Latest update of the build of my Star Destroyer. It is only now starting to lag my computer and I’m getting the CUDA error: Out of memory in culaunchKemel(cuPathTrace, xblocks, yblocks, 1, xthreads, ythreads, 1, 0, 0, args, 01) when I switch to rendered view. I knew this would happen eventually but I am also sure that there is way to fix this. I just haven’t looked into it deeply enough. Ah well, I can still render out the images fine and the animation I think should be okay, I don’t have much more modelling to actually do so I’m keeping my fingers crossed…lol

At any rate I have been doing some work on the engines and I did some more refining of the sides. It’s coming a long slowly but it’s very much worth it.

get a cg job with disney, they could use a jedi like you :stuck_out_tongue: so looking forward to your animation, hope your cpu doesnt melt from it

DAT SIDE SHOT… sweet. How many samples?

lol, the irony is that I can still render out the images on my GPU but can’t use the rendered view in the viewport unless I am using my CPU. Hopefully the animation will render out with my GPU. I am going to have to render out different parts of the animation and then composite them together for the final sequence. As for a job at Disney, would love that but I don’t think that is in the foreseeable future though that would be really cool…hehehehe

Thanks! It’s rendered at about 1500 samples at this point. I will likely render higher so that zoom in’s can really get in close to the details.

Been detailing the Engine blocks and did a shot with darker lighting. I also increased the trench height along the sides of the main hull by 20%. It’s getting there, almost done!

Here is the latest image of the engine blocks. The MODEL IS DONE!!! I’ll be posting multi-views of the model soon.

join the dark side…shhh… we have the most detailed spaceship in the galaxy…

And the coolest theme music:
Cue Imperial March.
Awesome work. Can’t wait to see the animation.

So, in preparation for my animation I am doing a couple of other ships, one being the Tantive IV which is the ship that Leia was on in the Opening scene of A New Hope. It’s also called the Block Aid Runner. I did this today. Not done yet and won’t be as detailed as the Star Destroyer as it will only be in a flyby and not really any close ups.
