Myst Library

So I’ve been working on this off and on for a while now, but I’ve always been frustrated that there are no true hi-res versions of the graphics from the original Myst game. Yes, they did come out with realMyst and realMyst Masterpiece Edition, but while impressive and novel, the graphics just aren’t anywhere near as mind-blowing as the original game was for its time. I’ve always wanted to experience the world of Myst in a more photo-realistic way, and since I haven’t been able to find the kind of re-imagined scenes that I’ve always wanted to see, I decided to take it upon myself to do it.

I definitely still have a lot of work to do. While most of the modeling is done (I mainly just need to add all the books), most of the hard work will come in the form of accurately lighting and texturing the scene. I may update this thread as I make progress, but I just wanted to share where I’m at right now, and get any feedback you guys might have. Hope you like it!

Please excuse the viewport renders; it’s all I have right now and I don’t feel like sitting around for “real” renders at this point

Honestly, if you can pull off a high res rendered version, fully playable, of the original Myst, I will happily call you God.

Of course, the game was not just the graphics, but the narration and music, as well.

Oh man, as awesome as that would be (I’d probably crap my own pants), I would probably have to literally be God to pull it off haha. I can’t even begin to imagine how long that would take, wow. Still… I don’t know how much money I’d pay to play that. Appreciate the compliment, though; glad you like the renders!

Very nice!

I still have the attract-narration memorized:

“I realized the moment I fell into the fissure that the book might not have been destroyed as I had planned…”
