N00b project - Motor Boat

Hi, I’ve been using Blender and browsing elysiun for some time, but compared to the talent here I still consider myself a n00b. But this little project is good enough to be presented here, I hope. It’s a HP 562 motor boat, I got the blueprints for it over at suurland.com.
Hope you like it and give me some C&C.

Here it is:

hey thats better than i could have done iand i have been using blender for 1 1/2 years. any way maybe you could make the water reflexive and transparent.and maybe also add alittle specular lights on the water.

Ok, First off, I suck at this, so you dont have to take anything i say about anything you do for anything. I couldnt make that if my life depended on it… Now that that is out of the way, Yes, i agree with Yor, Reflective water and even if you could, try and make the water a little transparent so it looks like water instead of a big thick blanket with a boat on it… :stuck_out_tongue: Just kidding… But anyways, also you could make the paint on the boat a little reflective and add some lights to it if there should be any one it? Dont know… But i have always seen those two lights in the front on the Bow the red and blue one or red and green.(I dont remember the color… i just know they are there…) Ok, enough info from the real noob, thanks for your time. Good job by the way.

Looks cool! Only the water could use some improvement

Thanks for the replies!
The water is based on a tutorial by cog, but I didn’t add whitecaps and anyway, the tutorial was intended for animation. You’re right, it lacks something.
True about the lights, there should be some, but I didn’t know where to put them, I’m not exactly an expert on boats.

your water is far to sharp and random. look at some picture of water…

notice in these pictures is they reflect their surroundings. I think you can only do water well with hdri
here’s one I did for a speed model: http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/6514/boat7wn.jpg
now the water needs some work, but I did that less than 5 min.
I used yafray, hdr, and a 1.5 ior with full ray

Hmmm, your result is really nice.
Sadly, I have no idea how HDRI works, up until now I haven’t found a tutorial that really explains it. There are YafRay-Tutorials that mention it, but none seem to really describe how it works.
As I understand it, you need a special kind of image that is used for the reflections, a .hdr-file or something. Never seen one, though.
