Nature's Rebirth or Death to The Giants of Industry

Hi there!

I haven’t posted many things here, but I’ve been a member for many years. In the past couple of years I’ve been able to turn my hobby of creating into a career and left my day job to move to LA where I was lucky enough to work on a few pretty cool projects. Recently I moved back to Seattle to help take care of my mother and have decided to use some of that time to put more energy into creating art more steadily.

This is one of my attempts.

This began life as a showcase for a metal shader that I’ve been working on and sort of ballooned into it’s own thing. I put this scene together over a period of 4 days. The robot models I didn’t make, they were acquired from sketchfab, links are below. The distant terrain was also acquired from sketchfab, and the scene terrain was created with a landscape addon and some manual finessing. Trees and foliage were placed using a combination of Botaniq, Graswald, and Quixel Megascans. Post processing was done in After Effects. Even though this is a still image, I find that AE has a lot of features great for editing scenery and it’s support for exporting frames as lossless pngs make it ideal for quick turn arounds on shots like this.

I’d love to know your thoughts on the scene!

Looks great! Really cool and interesting composition. I like the Showcase8 image a lot. In the Showcase9 there is too much chromatic abberation or something, that makes it all a bit hazy. Well done!

Thanks for the feedback. There are actually several layers of effects here. The ones responsible for the haze are likely the bloom, light leak, and slight foggy layer that I added. I could tone those down a bit. I’ll experiment when I have some more free time.
