I have been away from Blender for a long time, and as I come slowly back to the light, I find things have been forgotten. Such as, I can’t get the ‘near’ sensor to work. Please explain to me, in great detail, how to use this, as I haven’t a clue what i’m doing with it anymore… Thanks!

I don’t think the near sensor has changed at all.
Just attach it to an object, then use the property box to determine if it reacts to objects with only that property or all objects (leave the box blank). Dist is the radius of the sensor around the object.
What you probably are forgetting is that the near sensor only reacts to objects with the “actor” button enabled.
