I am thinking of getting a Mac, since I heard it’s good for graphics, but don’t know if that would be a good choice, neither what the specifications should be needed to work nicely with Blender.
Thanks in advance.

only reason to specifically go for one comp vs another is if there’s support for software X on one vs another. IE Windows/Linux can’t run FCP. OSX can’t run Vegas. Etc.
Get the best you can afford. A PC will give you more options: you can build it. A high end built PC will cost ~1/2 to 1/5th the cost of a prebuilt Mac/PC.
The “mac is better at graphics/art/music/etc” is an old wives tale. It’s as true as saying “pc is better at business”.
Typically a MAC is a version or two behind in graphics card technology. It’s like buying day-old donuts. You can spec out a custom machine here compare and decide.
Thanks for that. I think i will get a PC, then. A prebuilt one, i need the whole set and don’t know much about components. I just hope Windows 7 will work fine.
I have 7 64 and it works fine. I would recommend putting Blender on a thumdrive and taking it with you when buying a computer. Put some benchmark scenes on it and play. That is what I did.
if you’re going with a prebuilt & don’t expect to play games then one under $600 would be great for you (multi-core is a must!). Blender just needs a good CPU & update the GPU drivers when you get it home, but then you should be all set (my wife’s laptop cost ~$600 when I got it & it runs blender great… after I updated the intel GPU drivers).
It’s done. This is the one i’m getting here. It has multi core processor, if quad means that. If it’s a good deal, I don’t now, but it seems like a beast to me.
I’m glad I didn’t go for a Mac. They are not cheap, anyway.
if you want to use blender then i recommend a desktop pc over a laptop ^^
you will need these things:
good CPU (dual core 2 is good enough, if you have money then quad, octopus or 16 or whatever ^^)
then a good GPU (mine is old, around 3 years old ? ATI 1950 or 1970 pro something but it works well, I bought it to play game, but end up played nothing, now i am in linux and still works ^^ (in linux = I cant use 100% of its power(yet))) after three year it might costs only 100 euro now, so i think you can afford it
then Ram is also important, 1,5 gb ram would be ok, more is better. my laptop has 1 gb ram, lose 300 for video card, so i think i have 700 mb ram, and it crashes when i use blender for 3 minutes ? so i think it is because of ram. that is why you should get 1,5 gb ram or more ^^ I dont have money now, so when i use blender i have to use my computer (3 years old is still stronger than 1 year old :D)
a hdd to store your blender work (it should be fast but not that important)
and the most important thing :
a keyboard with numpad and a nice mouse (these thing are like your swords, without them you are as good as dead in the battlefield against Blender, or rather against your fantasy ^^ )

yeah, and I’m against Mac, it is too expensive.
I’d rather have 2 computers or 2 laptops than one Mac
1 strong to work
1 weak to play the music
and a long list of electricity bill ^^
