Need help making glossy material

Hi

I’m trying to create a lacquer finish and it’s difficult do. Basically it’s glossy black, but when it’s colorful where the light hits it. Or more accurately, the areas where you are looking at it straight on are colored, and the other areas are black.

I can make my material black or dark redish brown but not both.
I tried subsurface scattering, but that just made tons of pixels inside.

Any idea on how to create this material?

Your image looks right to me as far as I can tell.

Hi both of those are reference images. not mine. Can you unedit your comment so I can see your instructions again?

Essentially if you connect two materials to a mix node then connect a fresnel or layer weight it will be able to be adjusted with a color ramp in there.

hmmm mine seems to just stay red. Any idea what I’m doing wrong?

Invert the color ramp. Black to the right white to the left of black.

I think you need to add some clearcoat
to get a 2 layers look
the lacker is transparent and glossy but there is another color underneath it
