New(ish) to Blender - Attempting Realism

I want to develop my skills in realistic renders using mainly procedural materials. This is my first attempted WIP with the aim of a message in a bottle scene. I’m currently working on the sand texture using a combo of weight painted particles and materials.

Feedback appreciated.

Looks good so far. Will be cool to see the bottle textured too, to get a feel for the whole scene. But definitely a good start.

Welcome!

The texture of the sand is good.

If you are going for photorealism, I would like to talk about the brightness and color of the light. if this is meant to be sunlight, I would go brighter than that. Sunlight is always brighter than you think.

I also notice the light’s color seem a bit red. Are you trying to make a sunset?

I agree on the lighting.

I honestly just placemarked a simple HDRI and an extra sun light source to increase the contrast and colour a bit so I could get a rough idea of the textures.

I’m also not fully happy with the bottle shape either.

Consider making the area where the sand come in contact of water darker.
